Family Fast Day is a time for praying and sharing, where we donate to help another family with support like training so they can carve their way to a better future.
Today, as you enjoy a simple meal – whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner – may you be filled with warmth and love. By fasting today, you are standing in solidarity with those facing incredible hardships, as part of one global family.
Young people like Daniel, who didn’t get the chance to go to school, have struggled to find work to earn a living. Daniel found hope through a carpentry training course funded with donations like yours. His encounter with our local partner gave him the opportunity to learn new skills and get the training he needs. He worked diligently on the carpentry training for eight months and learnt to make different items of furniture. He now has his own workshop and is able to earn a living and help his family.
Today we celebrate the feast of St Francis of Assisi. Like Daniel, this popular saint knew what it was to build. More than 800 years ago, he heard the Lord’s call to “rebuild my Church.” St Francis soon realised this task was much bigger than bricks and mortar. It meant reaching out to the marginalised, caring for all creation and working for peace.
As we come together on Family Fast Day may we be inspired by St Francis' example and seek to build a more just and compassionate world.
Don't forget your envelope
Take your Fast Day envelope to Mass this weekend to make your donation, or use our virtual envelope online! Every gift makes a difference.
The donations you give each Fast Day help us to reach people like Daniel with practical help, and they also mean we can react quickly in emergencies. Despite the risks, our local experts are working right now to provide food and shelter to families in Lebanon and Gaza caught up in the Middle East conflict.
Finally, please do join us in praying that this Family Fast Day we can all share God’s gifts with each other, so that all people throughout the world may look to the future with hope.
