WG Economy: Harris Versus Biden On The Economy

WG Economy | David Winston

October 2, 2024

With Inflation being one of the biggest weak points for Democrats, Kamala Harris has tried to gain standing on the economy. Back in February, we took a look at a series of presidential attributes to see how voters associated each one with Biden or Trump. On the attribute of will get the economy moving in the right direction, Trump had a 16-point advantage over Biden (51-35), and 20 points among independents (48-28, 24% undecided).

From our latest survey for Winning the Issues (September 18-19), Trump's advantage on this economic attribute has been cut in half only to 8 points, leading Harris 49-41. Among independents, he still leads by 15, but this is down from a lead of 20 points in the previous matchup with Biden.

WG Discussion Points: New Numbers On Harris Favorables

WG Discussion Points | David Winston

September 27, 2024

Our new numbers on the presidential race show that Kamala Harris has sustained the same brand image as she had right after becoming the presumptive nominee. Our late July numbers had shown her initial brand image at 46-50 favorable-unfavorable. In our July 26 Discussion Points, we wrote that "A brand image of 46-50 indicates she is somewhat of a neutral figure to the electorate, meaning she could be an acceptable alternative to Trump but is not necessarily an appealing option. If this brand deteriorates, she will have the same problems Biden had."

Our latest numbers (September 18-19) indicate that over the past two months, her favorables have not improved (46-51 favorable-unfavorable), but have not deteriorated either. As a result, she maintains that same small lead (+3 Harris among registered voters). From July to now, there is an equilibrium in the environment that has set in. The trend chart below shows our brand image tracking from Jly to the present.

On Thursday, Chairman David Avella and former New York State Senator David Carlucci (D) appeared on Fox News Channel's The Faulkner Focus with Harris Faulkner to discuss the growing tension between Republicans and Democrats, just 33 days before the election. The discussion followed a Judge's decision to unseal filings in the election interference case, as former President Trump accused the Department of Justice of interfering in the 2024 election.
