, our annual comparative study of 29 countries from Central Europe to Central Asia. The report finds a growing number of leaders openly turning their backs on democracy and driving the region into a stunning breakdown. The political and economic fallout from COVID-19 is expected to accelerate and exacerbate current trends but it also provides opportunities for democratic revival. Now is the time to act.
