*Governor Highlights Wyoming Energy Policy Priorities with UW School of Energy Research Executive Director *
*"In-depth discussion magnifies collaborative efforts to keep Wyoming energy strong "*
CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Governor Mark Gordon elaborated on the value and intricacies of Wyoming’s all-of-the-above energy strategy in an in-depth meeting with Wyoming School of Energy Resources (SER) Executive Director, Dr. Holly Krutka. The conversation included consideration of Wyoming’s policies and collaborative efforts to fight federal government overreach and utilize innovative technologies, including carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS).
The discussion took place during the taping of SER's “Energy Frontier: The Wyoming Landscape” podcast episode 22. [ [link removed] ]" Energy Frontier" seeks to bring together diverse energy professionals to explore energy topics, including SER’s research efforts and developing Wyoming projects.
The Governor praised SER’s innovative role in keeping Wyoming’s core industries and energy careers strong.
“What you and your colleagues have done has kept our eyes open to innovation and better ways that we can use the resources we have in an environmentally-friendly and more powerful way,” Governor Gordon said .
“We know we can develop coal the way we always have. We can do better. The ability to point to our success on the environmental side and our successes on the energy production side, those are things I am very encouraged and optimistic about.”
Last month, along with the Campbell County Commissioners, the Governor co-hosted an energy forum entitled, “The Cowboy State Economy: Keeping Wyoming Energy Strong” [ [link removed] ]. Gordon was joined by four energy industry professionals, including Krutka, who led the community discussion regarding consumer trends, external mandates, innovation, and ways Wyoming can continue to be a top energy provider with a potentially expanded market share.
In addition to discussing how Wyoming will continue to feed our national — and possibly global — energy-hungry power grids during the podcast recording, Krutka coaxed conversation regarding the Governor’s financial leadership while serving as state treasurer. Under his authority, Wyoming’s Sovereign Funds earned a No.1 ranking in the United States and No. 3 in the world for transparency ("Peterson Institute"). At times, during his tenure the sovereign fund was the highest single source of revenue for the state. Then-Treasurer Gordon ranked in the top 100 “Most Significant and Impactful Public Investor Executives” ("The Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute").
