Hi John.
I understand people are dealing with higher prices on groceries, gas, housing, and more. That’s why I’ve made lowering costs for Kansans a top priority.
I know many families are struggling with the cost of child care in particular. That’s why I’m supporting a bipartisan bill to double child care tax cuts to make life more affordable for Kansans.
But many need relief right now. So today, I wanted to share some quick resources to help local families.
As always, please visit davids.house.gov/lowercosts to see our complete directory of resources to help lower your costs.
I recently had the chance to catch up with the Zigtemas, a local family in Shawnee. They shared with me that child care is their single biggest expense. I know they aren't alone, which is why I’m supporting bipartisan legislation to make life more affordable for families.
• Help with Groceries: I know many families are having a hard time with high grocery prices. Find resources from the Department of Agriculture and elsewhere that may help lower your costs on my website.
• Help with Credit Card Bills: Find out how you may be able to stop mystery fees on your credit cards, fix mistakes on your bill, or access free credit reports.
• More Financial Resources: Many don’t realize it, but people often have lost track of property like old paychecks or bank savings. You may be able to claim these funds from the Kansas Department of Treasury for free. You can also learn more about how some families with modest incomes can get help with housing, utilities, and diapers.
• Child Safety: Several local police stations throughout our region offer to inspect your child’s car safety seat to make sure it’s installed correctly. You may also be able to access age-appropriate education programs from law enforcement.
• Early Childhood Resources:
• Educational Resources:
- Education Resources from the Library of Congress: The Library of Congress has a variety of resources to help students, parents, and teachers learn more about the federal government and whole the world around us.
- Congressional Research Service (CRS): CRS is part of the Library of Congress. Made-up of nonpartisan experts, they advise Congress on a variety of crucial subjects – everything from science to trade and more. They regularly produce thorough and authoritative reports, which are now available for the public. This may be a good resource for students conducting research.
- Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): I know the cost of college is top of mind for many families as well. Potential college or career school students should complete this application for student financial aid. You may be able to qualify for grants, scholarships, or student loans.
- Safe Teen Driving: Help the new driver in your family stay safe with resources from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
My mom raised my brothers and me on her own. We didn’t have a lot, but we worked hard. I understand it can be even more difficult to get by with higher prices and all the other challenges families have to grapple with these days. I hope some of these resources may help you or someone you know – so please feel free to forward this message.
My job is to serve every person and corner of our community, regardless of party. Whether we agree on every issue or not is beside the point. Everyone deserves a government that works for them – not just for special interests, big corporations, or the extremes of either party.
It’s an honor to serve you in the U.S. House of Representatives. You can click here to contact me if you’d like to share your thoughts or ask a question.
My warmest regards,
