Email from Santa Fe Dreamers Project Highlights from the last few months from SFDP   September 2024 Newsletter   Dear Supporters, We are excited to share some impactful news from this past month SFDP Awarded $750,000 Grant from the US Department of Justice We are thrilled to announce that Santa Fe Dreamers Project was awarded a federal grant from the Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women (OVW). This fiercely competitive grant will bring $750,000 in funding over the next 3 years, bolstering our Legal Assistance for Immigrant Victims Program, allowing us to expand vital services to those who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking. This recognition underscores both the impact and the quality of our work as well as our dedication to supporting immigrant survivors and helping them navigate the complex immigration system. Community Forum on Biden’s Parole in Place This month, we joined forces with the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center (NMILC) and El Centro to participate in an important online forum. We discussed updates to President Biden’s Parole in Place policy, which provides temporary protection for certain immigrant families facing deportation. This forum offered critical information for those directly impacted and helped build a unified strategy among advocacy groups to ensure the community stays informed and prepared. Dignity Not Detention Kickoff Event We’re standing in solidarity with the Dignity Not Detention campaign, which aims to close private immigrant detention centers in New Mexico. The kickoff event was a powerful call to action, and we’re committed to advocating for the closure of these facilities, which have long profited from inhumane treatment of immigrants. Together, we’re working towards a future where dignity and justice prevail in immigration detention policies.   High-Quality Legal Services Update Our legal team has been hard at work this month, providing essential services to our immigrant community. Here’s a snapshot of our achievements just in September: - 41 DACA applications processed to ensure Dreamers maintain their legal protections. - 5 family-based petitions filed to help reunite immigrant families. - 5 naturalization applications finalized, guiding clients to citizenship. - 1 Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) case resolved, offering vulnerable youth safety and security. - 3 advanced parole case approved, allowing a client to travel abroad without jeopardizing their status. and so far in 2024 we have 20 new citizens (with 40 pending) and 18 green card approvals!   Reflections From the Other Side by Hali Calzadillas Andujo "This blog post captures some of my thoughts after getting my green card. Read it here   Platinum Certification on Candid.org We’re proud to announce that we’ve achieved platinum certification on Candid.org! This prestigious designation reflects our ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence in our work. We are honored to be recognized for our dedication to serving immigrant communities with integrity, and we look forward to continuing to uphold these values in everything we do.   We couldn’t do this work without your support. Thank you for standing with us in the fight for immigrant rights. Together, we are building a more just and compassionate future.
