RESTORING THE SAN DIEGUITO RIVER VALLEY | The landmark San Dieguito River Wetland Restoration is complete! The project restored 84 acres of wetlands and creates a sustainable ecosystem prepared for sea level rise. The project also constructed a new trail to connect the Dust Devil Nature Trail to the Coast to Crest Trail, adding to the many hiking opportunities in the river valley. Thank you, SANDAG, Caltrans, and San Dieguito River Park JPA, for collaborating on this project! | DECLARE A NATIONAL EMERGENCY, NOW | For thirty-one years, the City Council has declared a local emergency due to the discharge of raw sewage from Mexico into the Tijuana River Valley and the Pacific Ocean. This week, led by Councilmember Vivian Moreno, we asked Congress and President Biden to recognize this environmental disaster, declare a national emergency, and fully fund the Environmental Protection Agency’s Comprehensive Infrastructure Solution for the Tijuana River Valley. Our local Congressional delegation, County Supervisors, City of San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre, and the scientific community have repeatedly sounded the alarm on the real-life impacts this crisis is having on families, our economy, and the environment. Raw sewage flows unchecked through delicate habitats, adjacent to residential neighborhoods, shuts down beaches, and causes acute and chronic diseases. On behalf of all those impacted, we say no more words, we need action now. | FIVE YEARS OF COMMUNITY POWER | Did you know that Petco Park is the first ballpark in the National League to run on 100% renewable energy? That energy comes from San Diego Community Power (SDCP). This week, we celebrated SDCP’s 5-year anniversary. From a brash start-up to now serving over 1 million customers, SDCP has been lighting it up and knocking it out of the park…like our Padres this season! SDCP is a Community Choice Aggregator providing cleaner electricity for a cleaner, affordable, and more sustainable future to residents and businesses in the cities of San Diego, Encinitas, National City, Chula Vista, La Mesa, and the unincorporated portions of San Diego County. | #TEAMLACAVA IN THE DISTRICT | SDPD’s Northwestern Division hosted the 5th Annual Skate Jam at the Pacific Highlands Ranch Skate Park. Skate Jam connects cops, kids, and the community. This year was filled with raffles, races, art, swag, a BBQ, and Skateboard Hall of Famers. Team LaCava appreciated the opportunity to join in the fun and connect with the Carmel Valley community. 🛹 | Council President Pro Tem Joe LaCava Follow me on social media to stay up to date. | |
