Friend,
Hurricane Helene, the Category 4 storm that slammed the US East Coast last weekend, left widespread destruction in its path. The images and stories emerging are heartbreaking. The storm killed hundreds of people — and likely thousands of animals.
World Animal Protection US is here to help. We are partnering with Ziggy's Refuge, Flying Pigs Sanctuary, and Asheville Humane Society to provide direct relief and rescue to animals impacted by the storm.
We’re also using our voice to call out factory farming companies that are accountable for increasing our risk of climate disasters and for the deaths of farmed animals trapped during the hurricane. Because sadly, leaving farmed animals behind in locked cages and shuttered sheds is nothing new. It was reported that 3.4 million chickens and turkeys and more than 5,500 pigs died during Hurricane Florence in 2018. And while the numbers are still coming in, we expect similar loss of animal life from Hurricane Helene.
In response to such devastation, World Animal Protection US has activated our Disaster Response Fund. Our Fund builds on our 70-year legacy of rescuing and protecting animals affected by disasters through support for partner organizations on the ground, which provide critical aid to animals following disaster events. Can you help with a donation today?
