Data.census.gov October 2024 [ [link removed] ]
*What's New?*
Throughout the past month, we’ve made a few updates to data.census.gov based on user feedback that we hope will enhance your experience.
* We’ve improved the display of American Community Survey (ACS) tables by defaulting to more appropriate data for coverage. Now when selecting collections of smaller geographies like “All counties in Indiana,” the site will default to data from the ACS 5-year estimates to ensure more geographies have data while allowing larger geographies like “All states in the US” to continue to return timelier ACS 1-Year data.
* The Industry and Occupation sections in the geography profiles now focus on the most relevant results for your selected geography. The profiles feature the top 10 industries and occupations shown in a descending bar chart, allowing you to see the most popular industries and occupations for a geography.
* We’ve made some edits to population pyramids to prevent overlap with age labels. You’ll also notice new icons that explain special characters, and we’ve removed charts where all values are zero, ensuring a cleaner and more efficient display.
This past month, the U.S. Census Bureau also released the S [ [link removed] ]upplemental [ [link removed] ] Demographic and Housing Characteristics File (S-DHC) [ [link removed] ]. The S-DHC is the final 2020 Census data product to be released and includes data combining the characteristics of households and the people living in them. The data are available for the nation, the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. These tables supplement the data on households and people released in the Demographic and Housing Characteristics File (DHC) [ [link removed] ] in May 2023.
To support this release, we’ve created six video tutorials to help you find the S-DHC data with guidance on how to access the tables as well as tips and tricks to navigate data.census.gov and the Census Data API. Please reference our *Press Kit* [ [link removed] ] for more information.

*How do I get started with my search?*
You have two options to start your search on the landing page of data.census.gov [ [link removed] ]: a free-form single search bar or an advanced search filtering experience. Many results can be found through either experience, but some complex searches are only available through the advanced search. To help you get started, we’ve included some guidance on when to use single search vs. advanced search.
*Single Search: Recommended to get a quick statistic or to search a single code or table ID*

You can combine multiple types of keywords in the same search. For example:
* Topic + Geography: “Poverty in Arizona”
* NAICS + Year + Geography: “531, 2012, All counties in Arizona”
*Advanced Search: Recommended for complex searches or to explore available options*
