Namibia’s alarming plan to cull its wildlife

Namibia is proposing a mass cull of endangered species and protected wildlife – with most of it expected to take place in the country’s protected national parks  The cull of 723 wild animals includes 83 elephants, 300 zebras and 30 hippos, among others. EIA unreservedly condemns the proposed killings and questions the motives of the plan. Executive Director Mary Rice said: “The mass slaughter of endangered and protected species in Namibia is an abdication by the Government of its responsibility.”

Will EU court ruling mean more illegal teak?

A new EU Court of Justice ruling may partially undo earlier convictions for importing teak from Myanmar in defiance of sanctions. The court ruled last month that teak taken from Myanmar and processed into sawn wood in Taiwan conferred Taiwanese origin.
