New Project to Expand Research Hub on Implications of Advances in Human Genomics Special focus on engaging diverse communities.
The Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics and the Columbia Division of Ethics will lead a five-year expansion of their hub for research on the ethical, legal, and social implications of human genomics, in collaboration with The Hastings Center and multiple partner organizations. Did AI Draft that Message from Your Doctor? Athmeya Jayaram responds to a concerning trend.
About 15,000 doctors and assistants at more than 150 health systems are using a new AI feature to draft replies to questions from hospital patients, and it can even write in an individual doctor’s voice. In addition to being error-prone, the tool raises ethical questions. If a patient were to find out that a complex message from their doctor about a diagnosis, for example, was generated by A.I., "I think they would feel rightly betrayed,” said Hastings Center research scholar Athmeya Jayaram in an interview with the New York Times. Looking for Outstanding Nurses Nominations are open for the 2025 Hastings Center Cunniff-Dixon Nursing Awards.
Prizes of $25,000 each will go to three nurses who provide outstanding end-of-life care, based on compassionate service and merit. Nurses at all levels of practice qualify for nomination.
