I-2117's Impacts on Intercity Transit
Climate Commitment Act Logo
Initiative 2117 would repeal the 2021 Climate Commitment Act (CCA), which funds the Move Ahead Washington legislation that allocates $3 billion for public transit over 16 years.
If passed, the initiative would eliminate a projected $143 million in funding for Intercity Transit over the next 14 years:
* $64 million in operating costs for bus and Village Vans transportation services.
* $24 million for Dial-A-Lift (paratransit) services for the elderly and people with disabilities.
* $48 million for zero emission vehicles and necessary charging infrastructure.
* $5 million to provide faster service along Martin Way.
* $2 million for active transportation safety and education.
These investments would improve mobility for those who need it most, provide real reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, and improve safety in our community.
Stormwater Improvements Ahead
Stormwater construction
Work to improve drainage and pavement at Lacey Transit Center (LTC) and Amtrak Centennial Station will begin soon. The LTC project will repair grates in the driveway that cover stormwater infrastructure.
The Amtrak project will restore the existing stormwater system to its original design, ensuring we meet stormwater requirements.
We anticipate work will begin in late October or early November, depending on when our contractor, Northwest Cascade, Inc., can get the necessary materials. We will provide updates on our website as more information becomes available.
October is Walk to School Month
Walk to School Month
With encouragement from Walk N Roll, the cities of Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater proclaim October 2024 Walk to School Month! Walking, biking and rolling to school builds community, promotes good health, relieves traffic congestion, and helps improve air quality around our schools.
Drivers can help ensure everyone arrives to school safely by driving 20 miles per hour in school zones and stopping for pedestrians at crosswalks and intersections.
Walk N Roll partners with schools in the Olympia, Tumwater and North Thurston school districts to help them organize Walk N Roll to School events in October and throughout the year. Learn how Walk N Roll can support your school by emailing us at
[email protected].
Join us in celebrating Walk to School Month by walking or rolling to school. Visit our website at intercitytransit.com/services/walknroll [ [link removed] ] to see if your child's school is participating.

"Be Safe. Be Seen." this Season
be safe be seen this winter
Fall's short, wet days make pedestrians and bicyclists less visible. Our drivers look for riders waiting at unlit bus stops, but they need your help!
Help ensure you get seen by our drivers and others by:
* *Wearing bright-colored or reflective clothing.* Drivers can see you 500 feet away when you wear reflective clothing compared to just 55 feet when wearing dark colors.
* *Adding some shine.* Put reflectors on your shoes, backpack, purse, bicycle spokes, jacket sleeves, or pant legs. Reflectors in a visible location will help drivers see you in the dark.
* *Lighting yourself up.* Carry a flashlight, flashing safety strobe, or use your cell phone. Help drivers see you by standing up, moving or waving as the bus approaches your stop.
Remember these tips when you're waiting for the bus, walking in a crosswalk, or while riding your bike. Visit intercitytransit.com/besafe [ [link removed] ] for more ways you can "Be Safe. Be Seen." this season.
