Hi John,

BIG NEWS! We just released our new toolkit: Building Worker Power in the Digital Age: Popular Education Tools for Organizers!

From electronic surveillance to automated management, Silicon Valley is developing new technologies for bosses to exert ever-greater power and control over workers. Building Worker Power in The Digital Age is a popular education toolkit that can equip workers to fight back.

ACCESS THE TOOLKIT

The toolkit contains a series of modules and activities to facilitate worker- and community-based discussions, strategizing, and power-building on workplace and social justice issues that intersect with work and technology:

💪 Worker Data, Worker Power

📊 Mapping Our Data at Work

💡 Our Questions, Our Knowledge

📲 History of Data Capitalism and Worker Surveillance 101

💸 The Tech Industry Supply Chain

🏙️ Migration, Tech, and Workers’ Rights

📜 Digital Rights Are Human Rights

🌄 Resisting the AI Extraction Economy, Practicing Our Futures

We co-authored this toolkit with Gig Workers Rising and the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, with contributions from Ryan Gerety (Director, Athena Coalition), Seeta Peña-Gangadharan (co-founder and co-lead of Our Data Bodies), Naomi Campbell (Director, Legal Empowerment Program, Right Question Institute), and Wilneida Negrón.

Last week we hosted a webinar with Gig Workers Rising and Tech Justice at Work to release the toolkit and to hear from workers, organizers, and tech justice leaders about the role of popular education in building worker power. Watch the recording here.

I also wanted to invite you to join our learning community, Pop Ed for Tech Justice. This is a space to share examples of how you’re using the toolkit, pose questions and share new resources, and connect with individuals and groups who are exploring popular education at the intersection of labor and technology. Sign up to join the group here.

Building Worker Power in the Digital Age is designed to help workers, unions, labor groups, and community organizations build power at the intersection of labor, technology, and justice. We hope you’ll download the toolkit, share it with your colleagues and networks, and let us know how you’ve used it and any lessons learned!
