Hello, John. This is Ken Burns.
As a filmmaker, I'm particularly interested in moments that shift the trajectory of the American story: the Civil War, World War II, the Civil Rights Movement -- and yes, momentous Election Days.
These defining moments forced us as a nation to choose: Do we live up to the essential promise of our democracy, or do we stray from those ideals? As Benjamin Franklin is said to have wisely put it, we have "a republic, if you can keep it."
Time and again, we've chosen to persevere even when the road ahead was difficult and uncertain -- and today, our challenge is no different. The democratic values that make up the very fabric of our nation are at risk of unraveling without our support.
It has never been more important that we come together to ensure that our democracy endures for future generations, and defending the Senate is at the very core of that work. The DSCC is tripling all gifts until midnight to protect our majority, so will you chip in today?
Even with a historically slim Senate majority, Democrats have steadied the course for America after four years of a Donald Trump presidency, protecting the key ideals that make our country uniquely great. But their opponents have worked to undermine democracy, civil rights, and freedom -- and in November, Americans must choose which vision will prevail.
To continue the legacy of our founding ideals, we must protect the Democratic majority in the Senate and defend ourselves from the division that extremists seek to create. But it won't happen without your help, John:
