Race + Power Weekly

In this week’s Race + Power newsletter, we explore how broadening our lens can better serve the entire spectrum of humanity. First, people training for medical careers rely on medical illustrations which usually only depict thin, White, young, heteronormative bodies. Efforts are underway to diversify medical illustrations to improve patient care and promote health equity. Next, arts and culture workers are paid even less than the average nonprofit worker, but organizations in the northeast are working in coalition toward pay equity in the arts, and their approach is starting to catch on. Then, many undergraduate students in the United States today are already parents and may have spent years in the workforce before going to college. How can the postsecondary system better meet the needs of these students? Finally, NPQ is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a collection of stories honoring the cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx Americans.
