Dear John,

With just over 30 days until Election Day, we are thrilled to announce the launch of our 2024 On the Rise report!

On the Rise is a comprehensive, data-driven, biannual election-year report—the only one of its kind—exploring the trends and statistics that underlie Gen Z and millennials’ path to political power on the national stage.

Through our research and analysis of demographic data—including, but not exclusive to, age group, generation, gender, and political-party affiliation—on candidates for Congress, we found that younger generations were disproportionately eliminated from their congressional race prior to the general election.

Despite the challenges, young people persist in seeking public office.

This year’s report found:

  • Approximately one in four candidates is a millennial or Gen Zer.
  • From 2020 to 2024, the number of millennials on the general election ballot increased 79%.
  • More than one in three state legislators on the ballot for Congress in November are millennials.
  • No generation or age group is dominated by a single political party. However, among younger candidates, 42% are running as Democrats, 29% are running as Republicans, and 29% are running unaffiliated or with a third party.
  • Men are overrepresented on the general election ballot, with just over 70% of all candidates identifying as men—a trend that carries across generations and age groups.

The data featured in On the Rise tell a powerful story of young Americans striving to take on the mantle of leadership, potentially making the U.S. political landscape more diverse, energetic, and future-focused than ever before.

We invite you to explore the full report to gain deeper insights and understanding into the next generation of elected leaders.

When we work together, our best days are ahead.

Onwards,
