Bad news out of Texas, James: state officials are now suing to block federal rules that protect the medical records of women who travel out of state to seek abortion care in states where it is legal.

If they’re successful, they could use private medical records “for law enforcement purposes.” This outrageous intrusion into personal medical decisions underscores just how far politicians will go to control our lives.

This is a terrifying escalation—but it’s not just happening in Texas. Extreme efforts to strip away our fundamental freedoms are sweeping the nation, and if we don’t act now, Wisconsin could be next.

As an OB/GYN who has cared for patients making some of the most personal decisions of their lives, I know firsthand the importance of privacy and autonomy in health care.
