CNN and reporter Josh Kraushaar falsely claimed that Rep. Rashida Tlaib made racist comments about Michigan’s Attorney General, Dana Nessel.

As the only Palestinian-American in Congress, Tlaib has become a kind of lightning rod for anti-Palestinian sentiments. In this case, Kraushaar wrote an article claiming Tlaib accused Nessel of filing charges only against pro-Palestinian protesters because Nessel is Jewish.

In fact, Tlaib did not say anything whatsoever about Nessel’s religion.

Kraushaar edited his comments, but only slightly, to indicate that Tlaib “suggested” the racist statement against Nessel, rather than that she “claimed” it. However, this is not really much of a retraction or correction, given that the underlying charge is still being perpetuated.

There is no basis for this falsehood, and it must not be allowed to stand. Add your name now to demand a retraction and correction by both CNN and reporter Josh Kraushaar for their false reporting on Rep. Rashida Tlaib.

Nessel’s religion has nothing to do with Tlaib’s argument, that his filing of charges against the pro-Palestinian protesters was arbitrary and inconsistent, in comparison to his more lenient treatment of other protesters, such as those against racism or police brutality -- some of which turned out to be more violent.

She also mentioned the University of Michigan’s pressure on Nasser to file the charges could have been a big factor underlying his decisions. Religion was not a factor in Tlaib’s comments.

Representative Tlaib emphasizes that she will not let this campaign of falsehood and innuendo intimidate her or keep her from speaking her truth. She will continue to speak up as she sees fit.

We need to let her know that we support her and that this smear campaign will not stand.

Demand that CNN and Josh Kraushaar issue corrections, a retraction, and an apology for reporting these false accusations against Rep. Rashida Tlaib.
