Slippery driveways, sidewalks, and stairs can prove particularly hazardous for older adults. Auburn Public Works and our good friends at Hammond Lumber Company are proud to offer our 11th annual "Sand Buckets for Seniors" program! APW will provide (and deliver) a free bucket full of sand for seniors living in Auburn to help make walkways, steps, and driveways safer this winter. Nearly 300 Auburn residents enroll in this program each year! Auburn homeowners who are 65 and older and wish to receive a free bucket of sand to use on their steps and walkways should contact Auburn Public Works (207-333-6670) to enroll by November 29. Bucket delivery will begin in early November. *NOTE: If you participated last year, we will call you to be sure you'd like to join us again this year. Please KEEP your bucket from last winter!*   Please plan to join the Auburn Fire Department for their annual OPEN HOUSE! Kids of all ages will enjoy seeing the fire trucks and demonstrations, goodie bags and special guests. Join us at Central Station (550 Minot Avenue) on Saturday, October 26 from 10:00AM to 1:00PM.   The Home Depot in Auburn recently donated nearly 400 2.5lb residential ABC fire extinguishers to the Auburn Fire Department! These extinguishers will be distributed to Auburn residents free of cost in October, which is Fire Prevention Month. Small, portable extinguishers are helpful when stored in kitchens, garages, and basements and are relatively easy to use. A portable fire extinguisher can help save lives and property by putting out a small fire or containing it until the fire department arrives on scene. Auburn residents may pick up their free fire extinguishers at Central Station (550 Minot Ave.) Each box contains two extinguishers, and one box per household. They will be available for pick up each Saturday in October from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM while supplies last. Proof of residence may be required. Special thanks to The Home Depot for this incredibly generous donation to our community.     Want to learn more about Auburn's upcoming revaluation process? Visit our new "RevalAuburn" hub site.
