Hey there, John! I’m Mandela Barnes, the former lieutenant governor of Wisconsin. Before I tell you my story, can you split a donation today between Austin Davis and my organization, The Long Run PAC?

I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in a working-class family. My parents, who were both union members, instilled in me the values of hard work, community, and justice. They taught me that standing up for what is right isn’t just a choice—it’s a responsibility.

Growing up, I saw firsthand the struggles that so many families faced: the challenges of making ends meet, the barriers to quality education, and the lack of access to affordable healthcare. These experiences shaped my perspective and ignited a passion for public service. I knew I had to do something to make life better for the people in my community.

That’s why I ran for office. Serving as the youngest and first Black Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin was an honor, and it gave me the opportunity to work on the issues that matter most to us: fighting for living wages, expanding access to healthcare, addressing the climate crisis, and creating opportunities for all — regardless of their zip code.

You see, as someone who experienced firsthand the importance of being a second in command, I know just how crucial it is to have people like Austin Davis in positions of leadership — all across our country.

And at this moment, Austin Davis and I are continuing the fight in our home states of Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. As the first Black lieutenant governor in Pennsylvania’s history, Austin has helped lead the fight on issues like gun violence prevention and healthcare accessibility. 

As for me, I’m continuing to fight as the founder of The Long Run PAC here in Wisconsin — where I’m leading the next generation forward by working to elect young candidates all across the country.

Whatever way you spin it, this moment is important. As young leaders, Austin and I know our future generations are depending on us to protect our battleground states from extremists like Donald Trump. They’re also depending on us to help elect leaders who truly represent their values!
