John -
Earlier today, climate activists with 350 Brooklyn, Sunrise Movement, and more joined forces to protest outside Citibank headquarters as investors gathered in New York City. Will you join the tweetstorm to stand with the protesters?
Citi already agreed to stop funding the destructive East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) — and you’d think that would be the end of it. But no.
Citi is going behind our backs by continuing to finance TotalEnergies, the global energy company that’s building EACOP. So, as Total hosts its main investors for Investor Day today, we’re making our voices heard.
Total wants to impress at its Investor Day event — and that’s why we need to show investors how they’re funding dirty fossil fuels that are destroying the planet.
John, we’re calling out destructive fossil fuel expansion — and Citi’s hypocrisy — both on the ground and online. Will you join us?
Send a tweet to Citibank demanding they stop funding TotalEnergies and EACOP once and for all.
If built, EACOP will displace communities in Tanzania and Uganda along its nearly 900 miles of pipeline. It’s been called “a carbon bomb for humanity,”1 and will throw even more fuel on the climate crisis fire.
All summer long, activists in the U.S. have been taking part in Summer of Heat protests against EACOP in NYC — and many have been arrested. Activists in Uganda and Tanzania have faced even worse — harassment, violence, arrests and kidnappings — for speaking out.2
That’s why it’s more urgent than ever to stand in solidarity in our collective fight to end fossil fuel expansion.
Together, activists have pressured dozens of banks and insurance companies not to finance or insure EACOP. We can push Citi to drop Total and EACOP, too.
In solidarity,
Nico Udu-gama with 350.org
P.S. If you don’t have a Twitter account, you can still get in on the action. Sign a pledge to stand in solidarity with the EACOP activists today.
