A weekly wrap of ADL’s reports, updates and analysis on antisemitism around the world.
ADL Friends,
As we begin the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, this evening, our thoughts are with our brothers and sisters in Israel who are facing a multitude of threats and attacks, including deadly terrorism and a massive ballistic missile attack from Iran. The international community must recognize the threat the genocidal regime in Iran — the biggest exporter of antisemitism and terrorism — poses not only to Israel but also to global stability, and take immediate action to prevent Tehran from pursuing its destructive agenda.
With the approaching High Holidays, we are focused on ensuring the safety and security of the U.S. Jewish community, working closely with law enforcement and our nation’s leaders to ensure that we do not experience another spike in antisemitism at a time when our community feels most vulnerable. [ADL Scorecard] Major Platforms Routinely Fail When Users Report Antisemitic Hate
[link removed]
A new scorecard from the ADL Center for Technology and Society found that five major social media platforms — Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and X — routinely fail to act on antisemitic hate reported through regular channels available to users. The scorecard found that most platforms only took action when ADL escalated the reports through direct channels unavailable to regular users. And even then, platforms only acted on some of the hateful content.

X (formerly Twitter) scored the lowest with an “F” — as most of the platform’s actions consisted of limiting the problematic content’s visibility. Facebook and TikTok each received a “C”; YouTube and Instagram each earned a “C-minus.”
“Social media platforms are still falling far too short when it comes to moderating antisemitic and anti-Israel content,” said ADL CEO Jonathan A. Greenblatt. “Jewish users are encountering more antisemitic slurs and harassment on social media than ever before.”

We have all been affected by what has happened since October 7, 2023. Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT.
Hear from ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt and fellow ADL experts David Goldenberg, Susan Heller Pinto and Oren Segal along with special guest Eitan Bernath, a Chef, Author and Activist as they share insights into how things have changed in the past year, the challenges we face moving forward and actionable steps you can take to support the fight against antisemitism. ADL Backgrounder: Democratic Socialists of America: The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the United States. Though support for Zionism and Israel were core organizing principles when DSA was first established, it has since declared itself an anti-Zionist organization. Since the Oct. 7 Hamas terror massacre, DSA groups and committee members have openly engaged in rhetoric supportive of the attack and of “resistance” from Hamas and other U.S.-designated terror organizations.

The Crisis of Antisemitism on Campus Demands Immediate Action: As ADL’s VP for Advocacy Shira Goodman writes in the Times of Israel,
“What we are seeing is not merely a debate over policy or expressions of dissent — it is a full-scale campaign of hatred targeting Jewish students and institutions. This surge in antisemitism poses an existential threat to the safety and well-being of Jewish students nationwide. Universities must act decisively. Silence and inaction are forms of complicity.”

Help for K-12 Students: Since ADL and partners launched the Campus Antisemitism Legal Line (CALL) late last year, the helpline has managed more than 650 cases of college students who needed legal help to respond to antisemitism against them. Now, following a similar successful K-12 pilot program in California, the CALL helpline is expanding to provide legal assistance to parents of K-12 students, staff and faculty in Massachusetts and New York as well. They can use the line to report incidents of antisemitic discrimination, intimidation, harassment, vandalism or violence. When appropriate, lawyers will then conduct in-depth information-gathering interviews and may provide pro bono
representation or referrals to groups that can offer non-legal assistance.

@ADL
Following the Iranian regime’s attack on Israel, many anti-Israel activists took to social media to celebrate the onslaught, posting images of missiles raining down while applauding Tehran & the “resistance.” They included National Students for a Democratic Society (SDS); activist Anas Saleh from Within Our Lifetime (WOL); and Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD). This blatant support for the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism and antisemitism is appalling and reprehensible.

ADL Los Angeles Regional Director @jeffreyabrams comments on the sentencing of the Pico-Robertson shooter: Hate crimes are message crimes. Strong sentences for perpetrators of hate crimes sends the message that hate is not tolerated in a community. Today’s sentencing of the man responsible for the 2023 shooting of two Jewish men leaving morning prayer services on consecutive days in the Pico-Robertson area of Los Angeles is a welcomed message condemning antisemitism in LA, in California and in our Country.

Any synagogue, any Jewish community center, any Jewish home for the elderly has armed guards in it. That’s not normal. As I told @AP, If we’re not safe on the campuses where we learn, in the places where we work, in the synagogues where we pray, where are we actually safe?

We are appalled to hear that multiple swastikas were found on @BarnardCollege’s campus. Antisemitism should have no place at Barnard, or any college campus, and the administration must investigate immediately and call out this heinous act. #NotOnMyCampus.
