John, last month, the oil and gas industry went to the Supreme Court to try to block EPA’s new methane pollution standards. EDF’s Legal Defense Team and our partners were able to quickly respond and oppose the attack on clean air.
For now, the methane standards — which will reduce millions of tons of climate-damaging and health-harming pollution — will stay in place, but there will be a long road ahead defending them in court.
EDF’s methane work is an example of how our Eco Partners’ steady, reliable funding is so important. It means we have the support to respond quickly in situations like this, put long-term plans into action like launching MethaneSAT and keep critical work moving forward like our partnerships with businesses and farmers.
That’s why our Fall Membership Drive goal is to welcome 365 new Eco Partners — one for every day of the year to protect the environment — by our October 17 deadline.

EDF will continue taking on big polluters and working to slash methane pollution to protect our health and clean air. This work is essential in the fight against climate change because methane’s short-term effect is 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
EDF is leading the way on methane and tackling it on every front. Together, we are:
|
|
- Leveraging data from EDF’s methane-detecting satellite MethaneSAT to pinpoint sources of methane pollution with unprecedented precision, and then use that data to plug leaks and hold polluters accountable.
- Helping slash methane pollution from the oil and gas industry — the fastest way to slow the rate of global warming this decade — and helping protect the health of millions of people.
- Advancing the Dairy Methane Action Alliance, a group of global food companies — including Starbucks, General Mills and more — committed to helping reduce methane pollution in their dairy supply chains.
- Working with farmers on science-based solutions to support a healthy planet by cutting methane pollution, making food production more sustainable, strengthening soil health, and conserving water and land.
