John, Hurricane Helene, one of the deadliest storms to ever hit the U.S., has left widespread destruction. As in any disaster, children are particularly at risk.
After striking Florida as a Category 4 storm, the hurricane moved inland causing extensive flooding across six states.
According to the latest reports, at least 133 people have been killed. Millions are still without power and cell service, unable to check on their loved ones. Many are in urgent need of basic necessities including food and clean drinking water.
This is a rapidly developing situation. As floodwaters recede, they’re revealing entire communities that have been completely destroyed. Many of them are small, rural communities Save the Children has worked with to support children facing poverty, inequality and hunger. They need our support now more than ever.
Countless children have lost their homes and their schools. They’re traumatized, left with uncertain futures.
But one thing is certain: With help from supporters like you, Save the Children will stay as long as it takes to help families and communities recover.
