Dear friend, did you see this CNN news alert?

A new study reveals that over 3,600 chemicals used in food packaging, manufacturing and storage migrate into the human body – and many of them are linked to serious health problems.

This is the first study showing that so many chemicals used in food contact materials – from plastic storage bags to label printer ink – leach into our bodies. Some of the most-studied offenders include:

•
PFAS – “forever chemicals” that accumulate in our body and disrupt our hormones.
•
BPA – an endocrine disruptor linked to low birth weight, heart disease and cancer.
•
Phthalates – linked to genital malformations in baby boys, asthma, heart disease and more.

Of the 3,600 chemicals detected in humans, at least 79 contribute to cancer, endocrine and reproductive problems, genetic mutations and other harms. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! Thousands of other chemicals in food and food packaging remain understudied, posing unknown health risks.

Shockingly, some of these chemicals are allowed under outdated FDA regulations, thanks to a loophole called “generally recognized as safe,” (GRAS), which allows food manufacturers to greenlight substances for use without formal FDA review.

As EWG’s VP of government affairs, Melanie Benesh, told CNN, “When there are chemicals in our bodies that we know have the potential to cause us harm, we should be eliminating every route of exposure that we can.”

If you agree, we need your voice now. We’re looking for 5,000 top supporters to help us send a message: Keep toxic chemicals out of our food and food packaging! Will you speak out by completing a quick survey by midnight tonight?

Thank you for making your voice heard, friend!
