On Friday, over a hundred protesters gathered outside of Syracuse City Hall to demand a premature end to the statewide safety measures that have been implemented to protect our communities from COVID-19. Most were not practicing social distancing.

This dangerous rally was attended by the Cayuga County Republican Chairwoman and promoted by the Onondaga County Republican Chairman -- two of John Katko’s top supporters. This was a partisan stunt designed to inflame tensions and divide us at a time when we need to be listening to doctors and health experts.

John Katko must unequivocally denounce his reckless local party leadership, as well as the rhetoric of Donald Trump that has fueled dangerous protests like these all across the country in recent weeks.

Trump has talked about the need to "liberate" states and said that governors need to "give a little." At the same time, he refuses to support critical aid to states that need help fighting this pandemic. This is an appalling failure of leadership by a president who John Katko -- breaking his promise from four years ago -- decided to fully endorse.

John Katko has been consistently unwilling to speak out against his party leadership, despite their recklessness. So it's time for change. Dana is running a strong campaign to flip this swing district, and her primary is only seven weeks away. Can you donate $7, $70, or more to help her win?
