I was so wrapped up in the excitement of a progressive leader like Walz on the ticket, I forgot to mention another crucial point:
Run for Something stands for getting more young people in elected office, and you’d think with JD Vance, a spritely 40 year old (yes, he’s 40), we’d be glad to see some representation.
But here’s the full picture: We want young progressive people who bring new ideas, listen to the American people, and don’t put themselves over their constituents. That’s what we stand for, and candidates who fit that criteria are who we support. It goes without saying that JD Vance lets us (and let’s be real, the American people in general) down on all fronts.

But one thing that really stuck with me? How much Tim Walz is like so many of our Run for Something candidates and alumni. A former public school teacher with a desire to improve the lives of others, Walz is dedicated to the type of progressive change our country needs.
Did you know we have 445 candidates on ballots across the country alongside Tim Walz and Kamala Harris this November? These candidates are just as hardworking and dedicated as Coach Walz to getting us not only to the finish line in November, but excelling in their selected offices for their terms and beyond (shoutout to the RFS alumni running for federal office – we’re cheering you on!)
