Dear John,
My name is Jared Villery and I am the Expungement Fellow in the Policy Department at ARC. I was recently featured on Spectrum News where I shared my story about how forced labor blocked my education and progress while I was incarcerated.
In California prisons, refusing to work isn’t an option. That is the definition of involuntary servitude. As I told Spectrum, had I had the choice to work or focus on rehabilitation, I could have earned my associate’s degrees three or four years sooner and joined more self-help groups.
This November, California voters will have the choice to end modern-day slavery by passing Proposition 6 ([link removed]) .
Watch ([link removed]) the video to learn more, and vote YES on Proposition 6! Donate to help us pass Prop 6!
Sincerely,
Jared Villery
