Nebraska Fishing News & Opportunities

Fall rainbow trout stocking has begun

It's time once again — time to enjoy fishing for rainbow trout as they are stocked across the state. In addition to rainbow trout, we will be releasing thousands of cutbows, a cutthroat/rainbow trout hybrid, into Lake Ogallala for anglers looking to catch a different species. See the schedule at the link below.

Top reasons to fish in the fall

As water temperatures cool, early-fall fishing can be some of the best. This time of year offers nice weather and scenic surroundings; plus, your favorite 'honey hole' will be less crowded.

In addition, fish are fatter as they pack on weight for the long winter or put on weight producing eggs for next spring. You can also expect fish patterns to change, a fun challenge as you follow some fish into the shallows, while others might move deeper. Buy a fishing permit today and join in the fall fishing fun.

Start - or continue - your pursuit of a Trout Slam

Put a new sense of challenge into your fishing this fall — pursue a Trout Slam. You'll need to catch, photograph and submit a photo of the four trout species found in Nebraska — brook, brown, rainbow and cutthroat. Those who complete the slam will receive a certificate and pin.
