Friends, Hurricane Helene has devastated entire communities across Western North Carolina. My heart and the Office of the State Auditor are with everyone impacted.
There’s nothing that I could say to make things better immediately, but know that I stand with you and will fulfill my responsibility to ensure that state and federal recovery funds are dispersed to the people and communities that need it most.
As someone who grew up near the coast on low-lying land, I know what it’s like to sweep hurricane flood water out of my childhood home, to discard every meaningful possession, and have your home condemned. I share this to convey that me standing with you is not a political talking point - it’s a promise.
North Carolinians are resilient and we step in when a neighbor is in need. It’s going to take resilience and a herculean effort of unity to rebuild. Over the past few days, I have witnessed a beautiful unity and collaboration of DOT workers, first responders, electricity line workers, volunteers and all those working diligently to save lives and provide water, food and electricity to impacted areas.
This is not a fundraising email for my campaign, my request is that you join me in answering Governor Cooper’s call to donate to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund.
