The coronavirus ravaged our economy, and your team at Texas Right to Life is not immune. That’s why I’m writing to you with so much urgency.
Friend, as part of "Giving Tuesday Now" today, I must ask you to build on your generous financial support of Texas Right to Life to protect America’s future.
But first, let me tell you a story...
Before the coronavirus first took off in Texas, health care rationing was already well underway in Italy. Top Italian health officials urged hospitals not to treat elderly patients, regardless of whether they even have the virus.
An Italian health agency published utilitarian guidelines stating that doctors and nurses should deny treatment for people who have too low a number of expected “life-years” left. This includes ALL elderly patients needing intensive care treatment, not just those suffering from COVID-19.
As soon as we heard this, we knew these anti-Life ethics may come to Texas.
Sure enough - days later *Jenny, the wife of a coronavirus patient, contacted us. A Central Texas hospital forced a Do-Not-Resuscitate (DNR) order on her husband, *Sam, against her will.
Forced DNR orders are ILLEGAL in Texas, but how many patients know their rights and would even think to ask Texas Right to Life for help like Jenny did?
Your support dispatched one of our patient advocates to the Central Texas hospital, and the DNR was revoked!
