John,
After conducting indiscriminate airstrikes in Beirut, flattening apartment buildings, and killing hundreds of civilians in the deadliest day for Lebanon since 2006, the Israeli military has now begun a ground invasion of southern Lebanon.
Israeli tanks are entering cities and villages while bombs are dropped on residential communities. In less than a month, the Israeli military has already killed at least 1,000 people in Lebanon. If Israel is allowed to continue this invasion, thousands more will be killed.
Even Ronald Reagan withheld weapons to Israel when it invaded Lebanon in the 1980s. This is the bare minimum the United States should do to prevent another endless war — but so far, our government has continued to send billions in weapons and bombs to the Israeli military.
Months ago, President Biden said Israel invading Rafah was a red line, but continued sending weapons and bombs that were used to kill tens of thousands of civilians across Gaza and the West Bank. Now, Israel is about to do the same thing to Lebanon.
It’s time for our leaders to firmly oppose Netanyahu’s invasion and stop sending him blank checks to commit war crimes.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
