John,
Last week, rent was due for tens of millions of newly unemployed and underemployed Americans for the second time in the COVID-19 pandemic. In three weeks, it will be due again.
A new poll shows that almost TWO-THIRDS of renters are worried they won't be able to pay the rent in June. But Republicans and far too many Democrats in Congress have been content to ignore this growing crisis — even as they keep on bailing out billionaires.
That's why Working Families Party lawmakers like Philadelphia City Councilmember Kendra Brooks, NY State Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou, and SeaTac Councilmember Takele Gobena have been helping to lead the fight for immediate relief for tenants and homeowners alike. But they need our support.
Will you chip in $3 to help elect leaders like these who are showing every day that they stand unequivocally with working families? At every level of government, we are working right now to elect WFP champions who will put people first in response to this pandemic.

People should not have to live in fear of losing their homes, especially during a pandemic. WFP lawmakers like Kendra, Yuh-Line, and Takele are backing bold plans to make sure that working families aren’t faced with impossible choices like putting dinner on the table or keeping a roof over their heads:
- WFP Councilmember Kendra Brooks introduced a rent freeze bill, part of a package of bills in Philadelphia's Emergency Housing Protection Act, to protect economically vulnerable renters across the city from going homeless.
- WFP Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou proposed three bills in New York that would waive all rent payments for residential and small business tenants that can prove hardship related to COVID-19, suspend rent payments for tenants who lost income or were forced to close their business due to the state of emergency, and set up an emergency fund for small landlords.
- And WFP Councilmember Takele Gobena (SeaTac, WA) testified just last week in support of a resolution that would halt all rent and mortgage payments for King County residents for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.
These are just a few of the Working Families Party champions leading the fight every day for a response to this pandemic that puts us first, not the billionaires.
Rent and mortgage payments can’t wait. If we don’t act quickly, mass evictions, foreclosures, and small business closures are imminent. We need mortgage and rent relief, and we need it now.
Chip in $3 to help elect WFP champions and candidates in the fight for solutions that put people first.
In solidarity,
