John,
Y’all. This week my heart is full.
On Saturday, I joined hundreds of folks who converged on the Georgia
capitol to rally in memory of Amber Thurman and Candi Miller who lost
their lives as a result of the state’s 6-week abortion ban.
And today, that ban no longer stands.
So this is a love letter.
A love letter to the South, where we are continuously written off, but we
never give up.
A love letter to those organizing and fighting in states and conditions
where no one expects us to win, where fascism and authoritarianism are
palpable in the air.
A love letter to the elected officials putting the values of their
constituents above popularity and standing in the gap (shout out to
Renitta Shannon who was physically removed from the podium while
filibustering the ban in 2019).
A love letter to the reproductive justice organizations and organizers who
have led the way, and continue to stand in the legacy of our feminist
foreparents.
And a love letter to the Georgia movement ecosystem. Y’all never
disappoint me. We show up and show out every. single. time.
Congratulations. You remain an inspiration.
