Jane Fonda

John — Michigan is a pivotal swing state in the presidential race, but there's a lot more happening beneath the surface.

I want to explain why the Michigan state legislature matters — no matter where you live — and why you should chip in to support my Climate Champions of the week. Click here to split an $18 donation between MI state legislative candidates Jenn Hill, Jennifer Conlin, and Jaime Churches if you're short on time and ready to help!

  1. Delivering Michigan for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz lies in boosting turnout in down-ballot races. Our endorsed candidates are running in tight districts where every single vote could sway the outcome. The more support our candidates have, the more voters they can engage at the doors and on the phones — voters who are also crucial to turn out for the Harris-Walz ticket. Boosting turnout in a few key districts in a state as close as Michigan could decide who wins the presidency.

  2. Landmark climate legislation is on the chopping block if Republicans flip the legislature. The Democratic majority in both chambers of the Michigan legislature is incredibly slim — two seats in each. This means that even a single seat flipping could undermine Michigan’s significant climate progress. Extreme Republicans and even some Democrats are actively working to undo these accomplishments. Your contribution today helps secure the necessary majority to advance climate initiatives.

  3. Michigan’s climate policies have a nationwide impact. State legislatures play a crucial role in shaping the rules that protect our environment. What happens in Michigan doesn’t stay in Michigan — it influences policies all across the country. Given the uncertainty in Congress, we need state legislatures that are committed to a climate-focused agenda. We’ll counter Big Oil’s influence one state legislative race at a time.

Meet My Climate Champions of the Week

🌍 Jenn Hill, MI HD109: Jenn is a proven leader for our environment and is leading Michigan toward a clean energy future. She isn’t afraid to hold corporate polluters accountable and will always put her constituents first. Jenn’s legislative accomplishments, including the state’s historic clean energy package, underscore her commitment to a clean, green future.

🌍 Jennifer Conlin, MI HD48: In Michigan's last legislative session, Jennifer championed historic climate action, fighting for her rural district. She knows clean energy isn't just about the environment. It's a lifeline for farming communities; a path to clean air, water, and land for our children; and a way to ensure small businesses thrive.

🌍 Jaime Churches, MI HD27: Jaime has a proven record of championing clean energy reforms and is a fierce advocate who is working to protect Michiganders’ waterways from toxic pollution. Jaime is committed to holding corporate polluters accountable and making them pay for the mess they’ve made.

Now that you understand the stakes, can you please split an $18 contribution between Jenn Hill, Jennifer Conlin, and Jaime Churches? It would mean the world to me!
