Dear John,
Last week, our team headed out to the Colorado mountains for our last two experiential learning trips with the 2024 Innovation Fellows. The lawmakers who joined us were from across the country, and their cohorts focused on strengthening democracy and energy and the environment.
First up: Strengthening Democracy

Nick Troiano, Executive Director of Unite America, and Amber McReynolds spoke with our lawmakers about innovative, nonpartisan solutions to election reform and security.
We were also joined by experts from the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), Dominion Voting, and Boulder County, CO, for a dinner panel to discuss their experiences with elections.

We went on a field trip to the Jefferson County Ballot Facility, where we got to see Colorado's fastest ballot counting machine and learn about administering allocations and counting votes.

And we couldn't miss the opportunity to see a concert at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater!

We kicked off the trip with our Energy & Environment Fellows with a Rockies game, and even got a shoutout on the Jumbotron!

The Rocky Mountain Institute presented their work on transforming global energy systems, and Think Microgrid led an interactive presentation on understanding microgrid technologies for achieving policy goals.

We followed up our discussions with a tour of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory where we learned about the work they're doing to advance renewable energy -- including 3D technology that put us inside a wind turbine!

And to wrap up the trip -- a private night tour of the Colorado State Capitol, courtesy of Representative Brianna Titone!

The Innovation Lab exists to serve as a hub for policy education, bridge building, and action. It has been such a privilege to bring these experiences to our Innovation Fellows, allowing them to learn directly from experts and ideate policy to be taken back to their state.
