Dear John,
I have an important update about an ongoing legal fight:
Last Friday, Judge Arthur Engoron rightfully denied Governor Kathy Hochul’s motion to dismiss two critical lawsuits to restore congestion pricing.
The battle isn’t over. But right now, this is a victory for our coalition of transit riders, environmental advocates, disability justice organizations and New Yorkers of every borough.
And this development is also a blow to the governor’s misguided belief that she has the ultimate authority to override an established law and remake it to fit her whims. When the Governor Hochul halted congestion pricing, she singlehandedly deprived millions of New Yorkers of $15 billion worth of transit improvements that would enable more frequent trains, cleaner air, faster buses, and greater accessibility—and the first-class transit system this first-class city needs and deserves.
Before Judge Engoron heard the first arguments for Riders Alliance v. Hochul and City Club of New York v. Hochul on Friday, we gathered with plaintiffs and advocates outside the federal courthouse.

John, congestion pricing is the law, and the Governor does not have the unilateral authority to revoke it.
If we don’t get this done, hard-working New Yorkers on their way home after a long day will experience increasing service cuts, gridlock, air quality alerts, and inaccessible stations.
We’ll have more updates soon,
Brad
