Indivisibles,
There’s no way around it: If we want to codify reproductive rights and
pass democracy reform, then we have to keep our Senate majority. And it
won’t be easy. Democrats have a razor-thin majority, and they’re defending
23 out of the 34 seats that are up this year.
For a while, it looked like our 50th seat would come down to Sen. Jon
Tester winning re-election in Montana. This has been a priority race for
us since Day 1, but it’s an uphill battle, and we can’t risk our majority
on one state. So, while we continue to fight to reelect Tester, we also
have to work on flipping at least one Republican seat.
We were already targeting Texas and Florida as potential flips, but a new
opportunity has come up: Nebraska. Dan Osborn is running as an Independent
against a Republican incumbent, and recent polling shows him with a narrow
lead. Last week, we asked the movement if we should invest in this race,
and the results are in:
Over 86% of Indivisibles said we should go all-in to win the Senate race
in Nebraska. We’re so glad you agree about the potential here because
NEBRASKA IS A BIG DEAL, not just for keeping the Senate, but also for
winning the White House and flipping the House.
We’ll get into the details and the strategy in a moment, but first -- an
ask. Expanding our Senate targets with just a month to go before Election
Day isn’t easy -- and it’s damn near impossible without the support of our
grassroots donors. [ [link removed] ]So if you want us to win in Nebraska and hold our

What makes Nebraska so special?
When we talk about battlegrounds, most people are not thinking about
Nebraska, but the state can play a critical role in helping us win a
trifecta this year:
Flipping the House. Republican incumbent Don Bacon is running in NE-02, a
district that Joe Biden won in 2020. He’s one of the original
“Unrepresentatives” we started targeting last year and the polling average
shows his Democratic challenger in the lead. Reminder: We have to flip
just four seats to retake the House, so a pickup here would be huge.
Winning the White House. Despite the best efforts of Republicans to change
the rules of the game right before the election and hand all of Nebraska’s
electoral votes to Trump, the state is going to continue to apportion them
by House district. This means there’s a very real chance VP Harris wins
with exactly 270 electoral votes, and NE-02 is the vote that puts her over
the top:

Holding the Senate. A year ago, nobody would have guessed the Senate could
come down to Nebraska -- not us, and definitely not the GOP who are now
scrambling to defend the seat. Like we said last week, we need more
polling, but from what we have seen, this race is close. An Osborn victory
here would dramatically increase our chances of keeping the Senate out of
MAGA Republicans’ hands.
So, how do we win?
We’ve already deployed Neighbor2Neighbor in NE-02 to win both the House
seat and its crucial electoral vote. But if there was ever a race designed
for Neighbor2Neighbor, it would be Nebraska’s Senate race.
Like I mentioned above, Osborn is running as an Independent without the
support of the Democratic Party. It’s what makes him competitive in a
state like Nebraska. The last thing he needs is outside liberal groups
putting a national spotlight on him and spending hundreds of thousands of
dollars running ads on his behalf. What Osborn would really benefit from
is a grassroots mobilization of Nebraskans talking to Nebraskans. And
that’s exactly what we have to offer with Neighbor2Neighbor.
But opening up Neighbor2Neighbor statewide has costs: engineering to get
the targeting data and turn on the tool, staff time to support volunteers,
and funding to recruit more of them. [ [link removed] ]This movement voted to go all-in
to win Nebraska and keep our Senate majority. Now, we’re asking you to
help us raise at least $25,000 to fund the tools and tactics that will get
it done.

If we want to confirm good judges, codify abortion rights, pass democracy
reform, and allow Harris/Walz to advance their popular economic agenda, we
need a Democratic Senate. It’s as simple as that. Hard stop.
Let’s get out there and make it happen.
