John,
This isn’t good. As of this week, more than a dozen states across the country have partially reopened parts of their economies—without requiring essential health and safety measures.
Trying to go “back to normal” and fast tracking reopening is the worst way to handle this situation. We need your help to make sure Governors are protecting individuals and communities most vulnerable and at risk for COVID-19 as a condition of re-opening the economy.

Over and over we’re hearing from public health experts that reopening too soon can lead to a spike in infections. This pandemic is both a health and economic crisis — and one that is hurting some people more than others.
We know that mass unemployment or mass death are not the only two options. Governors still have time to save lives and jobs by crafting policy informed by what’s happening on the ground and centered on the people hit first and worst. That’s why last week we turned to you to learn how COVID-19 has impacted you and your families lives, along with your ideas for a path forward.
More than 53% of you shared that you don’t feel safe going back to work. Many of you expressed how you felt it was too soon to reopen, you want to see more testing available, more support for small businesses and low-income communities, and PPE equipment for workers and those who can’t access it. Thanks to your stories and thoughtful responses we put together 5 essential steps for reopening a healthy economy.
- Step 1: Safe Workplaces
- Step 2: Safe Commutes
- Step 3: Safe Communities
- Step 4: Equitable Access to Healthcare
- Step 5: Fair Access to Relief and Recovery
Now we need your help making sure Gov. Bowser takes these steps to protect the health and economic outcomes for all Americans.
Reopening the economy has to be better than normal. This pandemic has reinforced that we are only as strong as our most vulnerable neighbor. It’s time to build a new economy where we all have greater economic opportunity and resilience.
Send an urgent message to Gov. Bowser to adopt these conditions for re-opening today.
Thanks for taking action, The Green For All Team
