Welcome to our September Wrap-Up Newsletter! After a busy August recess, we hit the ground running in D.C. this September! From standing firm in protecting our individual freedoms and upholding the spirit of "We the People," to preserving America's farmland, Team Moore has been hard at work for Alabama's Second Congressional District. It's been a very productive and rewarding month, and we're going to finish this Congress off strong! I work for you, and I’m committed to making your voice heard. Stay in the loop with my latest efforts by following me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Your involvement is the backbone of our movement. Need help with the VA, IRS, or Social Security Administration? My office is ready to assist. Call us at the numbers below or visit my website. | Rep. Barry Moore Member of Congress | Breaking tradition for election security | Although, I have never voted for a continuing resolution before, I recently voted in support of a continuing resolution that failed to pass the house. This bill would have funded the government for six months and included the SAVE Act, a critical piece that I co-sponsored. This legislation amends the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to require proof of United States citizenship to register an individual to vote in elections for Federal office. I believe that it is our duty to get the SAVE Act passed and signed into law because Congress must do everything in its power to prevent individuals from manipulating our elections and diluting Americans voices. | Restricting funding for universities with Confucius Institutes | Confucius Institutes at American universities are an extension of the CCP's global apparatus used to impact the decisions of these institutions and spy on the United States. Schools that choose to maintain a relationship with the CCP through these institutes are putting the national security of our country at risk and should not receive taxpayer funding. That's why I voted in support of the DHS Restrictions on Confucius Institutes and Chinese Entities of Concern Act. This bill prevents funds from the Department of Homeland Security from flowing to American universities that host a Confucius Institute or maintain a relationship with a Chinese entity of concern, such as the Chinese Communist Party. | Standing up for taxpayers | Last week, I voted against a continuing resolution that funds the spending priorities of the Biden-Harris Administration until December 20th. This resolution fails to include any conservative wins for American families and does not cut a single penny from the Biden-Harris Administration's out-of-control spending policies. It is essential that we prioritize fiscal responsibility and ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely. Continuing to fund these initiatives without addressing the underlying issues only perpetuates wasteful spending and does not serve the best interests of our constituents. It's past time conservatives held bureaucrats' feet to the fire, and I refuse to ride shotgun while the Uniparty drives our country off a cliff. | The Congressional Coast Guard Liaisons recently presented me with a wonderful seal that will hang proudly in my office. Thank you to our Coast Guard for bravely protecting our waters. | Protecting our farms from foreign threats | As someone who grew up on a farm and now serves on the House Agriculture Committee, I understand firsthand that food security is national security. Our farmers and ranchers are not just the backbone of our rural communities – they're vital to our nation's independence and prosperity. However, the Chinese Communist Party has been steadily increasing its ownership of American farmland, posing a significant threat to our food supply and national security. This alarming trend, coupled with the economic challenges our producers are facing under the Biden-Harris administration, demands immediate action from Congress. That's why I voted in support of the Protecting American Agriculture from Foreign Adversaries Act, introduced by Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA). This legislation adds the Secretary of Agriculture to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and to take necessary actions to prohibit the purchase of U.S. agricultural land by foreign adversaries. By taking this crucial step, we can ensure that America's farmland remains in American hands for generations to come. | Meeting with SkillsUSA students | Last week, I had the pleasure to meet with SkillsUSA Instructor Steve Icenogle of Enterprise and the delegation of SkillsUSA students from Alabama today to discuss workforce development. Alabama's future is bright thanks to these students and teachers! | Thank you, Troy University! | Thank you, Britton Bonner and William Fillmore with Troy University, for stopping by to discuss the great things happening at the university and drop off a baseball helmet to be displayed in my office. Go Trojans! | Protecting privacy at airports | I recently led a letter joined by my friends and colleagues, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) to Transportation Security Administrator Pekoske expressing concern with TSA's recent expansion of facial recognition technology at 430 airports in the United States. Asking every American to consent to a face scan before getting on an airplane is a slippery slope that could pose a significant threat to our privacy and civil liberties. My colleagues and I want to know more about the reasoning behind TSA's decision so we can ensure these technologies are implemented in a way that balances national security interests with the rights and freedoms guaranteed to American citizens. | Confronting CCP aggression | Earlier this month, I voted in support of the Stop CCP Act, sponsored by Rep. McClain (R-MI). This legislation would require sanctions on all past and future members of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s National Congress and their immediate family members. The CCP has already proven they are willing to commit any human rights violation necessary to become the world's number one superpower. | Quarterly gathering with our Veterans | This past month my staff attended the Quarterly Military Veteran Affairs Committee meeting in Enterprise, where they were able to provide other attendees with a legislative update on the work I am doing on your behalf in DC. It's always a pleasure to hear from veterans in our community! | Speaking at the Montgomery Chamber breakfast | I had a wonderful time speaking at the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce’s Washington Brief event last month! Thank you for joining me and allowing me the opportunity to give all attendees an update on the work I am doing on their behalf in Washington. | Meeting with constituents in Wetumpka | Last month, I had the opportunity to visit Wetumpka and check out the Elmore County Technical Center, the Walmart Academy, and the fire station with Mayor Willis and provide everyone with a legislative update! Thanks for having me! | My staff recently attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Bennie G. Adkins State Veterans Home in Enterprise. They were also able to provide attendees with a legislative update on the work being done in DC for our Veterans. It's a pleasure to have this beautiful new facility in our community to serve our Veterans! | Out and about in Prattville and Millbrook! | I recently had the pleasure of visiting Mayor Gillespie in Prattville and stopping by The Mill at Seventeen Springs and the Art Mill in Millbrook and providing all attendees with a brief legislative update! Thank y'all for having me! | Alex from Team Moore had the chance to join the SARCOA Area Agency on Aging's ribbon-cutting ceremony in Dothan, celebrating their exciting expansion and renovation! The event was an important step forward in their commitment to supporting seniors and individuals with disabilities in southeast Alabama, enabling them to live fulfilling and self-reliant lives.
