I’ll tell you why. I’m running for Senate because I want to get real things done for all Californians. But I also truly believe that our democracy is in trouble.

In the last eight years, we have seen things take place in this country that I never would have imagined in America — an attempted insurrection, the GOP devolving into a destructive cult of personality around a deeply immoral figure, and some of our most precious freedoms stripped away by a Supreme Court packed with partisan and reactionary justices.

But I want you to know that I remain optimistic about our future. We are a deeply resilient country, and we will get through this. There will come a time when we look back on this period of history and wonder how someone like Donald Trump ever became president. How soon we get to that point, however, depends on us. It depends on the kind of effort we make in the next few weeks to move this country in the right direction. And having another staunch defender of our democracy in the Senate is essential.

At midnight, we will reach our FEC fundraising deadline, after which our fundraising numbers will be made public. And emails like these help us raise money to fight back against the cult of the former president.
