General Election Canvass for Shaun Scott This Thurs. 10/3 6pm Christie Park: RSVP This Sat. 10/5 11am w/IBEW 46! Volunteer Park: RSVP
The general election is just 5 weeks away! These past three weekends, we’ve been emphasizing Shaun’s socialist policy platform: Shaun’s commitment to fighting budget cuts and fully funding our public schools by taxing the ultra-rich and big business, resonated powerfully with voters across the spectrum. Recently the Seattle School Board announced its intention on closing up to 21 Elementary schools - the biggest closure of schools in the country! - laying off educators, and potentially going after educators wages to make up the $100 million deficit. We can’t wait to hit the doors again this week to send a working class champion to Olympia this November!
The Seattle Times has endorsed his right-wing, pro-corporate Democratic Party opponent Andrea Suarez. We’re going to have to fight back as pro-corporate and pro-developer forces align behind Andrea Suarez.
Who is Shaun Scott? Read more about him here.

Under pressure from the 350 parents who rallied at the last Seattle School Board meeting and the growing resistance in the broader community, the Seattle Public Schools Superintendent recently announced that they were canceling the community meetings on closures and are going back to the drawing board.
However, we’re not out of the woods yet! The $100 million budget deficit still remains and Seattle Public Schools is still considering mass school closures, layoffs, larger classroom sizes, and attacks on educators' pay. We need to keep the pressure up and demand to Tax the Rich and big business to fully fund education, lower classroom sizes and to support the Big 5 Plan for equitable and fully funded public schools.
To win this we need educators, support staff, Seattle Education Association, parents, students, and the broader community to come together to build a movement and pressure the Seattle School Board and the Democratic Party dominated Seattle City Council and Mayor to not go forward with these draconian cuts.
Join us on Wednesday, October 9, for a RALLY at 3:30pm at the Seattle School Board Meeting at the John Stanford Center (2445 3rd Ave S).

The Boeing Machinists fight on, and SDSA is there with them!
It is Week 3 of the strike as members of IAM 751 fight for a better contract that ensures a living wage, the return of their pensions, better healthcare and safer working conditions. While Boeing has paid $817 million over the past decade to executives and $68 billion to shareholders, machinists continue to struggle with rising costs of living. Members of Seattle DSA have been there alongside them every step of the way and will continue to be. An injury to one is an injury to all!
SDSA members are encouraged to show their solidarity this week by volunteering to help IAM 751 whenever they can. Nightowl picketers are still needed for the evening (8pm-12am) and late night (12am-4am) shifts, and we strongly encourage volunteers to attend in groups of at least two or more.
Park at the IAM Hall at 9125 15th Place South and catch a shuttle to the picket lines. The entrance is between the two buildings. Shuttles run regularly and there’s no parking along the line. If you are taking public transit, you can get off directly at the picket line at 14th & East Marginal Way.
Sign up for more information about future picketing at https://actionnetwork.org/forms/strike-ready-for-the-machinists and donate to the strike hardship fund at https://www.iam751.org/Strike2024/index.htm
