John
As we start the week, what’s on my mind is the historic damage done by Hurricane Helene. As you may know, after hitting Florida, she moved across southern Appalachia and caused flooding, destruction, and loss of life this past weekend.
My thoughts are with all of those impacted by the hurricane, especially those who have lost friends and family members. I’m also thinking of the many Americans who are still living without running water or power right now.
John, this kind of flooding is historic. I’m sure that for many Vermonters, this news is all too similar to what we have experienced as a state this summer and the summer before.
As the effects of climate change become more severe and spread across the country, I want to reach out and say that I share your concerns.
From Vermont to Florida, to North Carolina and Tennessee and beyond, climate change affects all of us. It’s on legislators like me to address these problems, and I’m as committed as ever to take bold and necessary action to combat climate change and protect all Americans from similar disasters in the future.
Make no mistake: climate change is real, it is here, and we’re going to tackle it together with urgency and unity. You have my word that I will prioritize fighting for climate action in Congress.
