September Update from the Frontlines

Dear John,
The pressure campaign to #StopTheGrind is working!
The Great Escape Music Festival in Brighton, England, has ended its partnership with the Faroe Islands following efforts to expose the brutal whale slaughter known as “The Grind.”
In a Grind, boats and jet skis drive pilot whales and dolphins into shallow waters, where they are dragged by blowhole, then killed by severing their spinal cords, slitting their throats, and bleeding them out. So far this year, 745 cetaceans have been butchered on Faroese beaches, despite health warnings against consuming the meat.
With your support, Sea Shepherd and the #StoptheGrind Coalition have reached over 11.5 million viewers in 2024, raising awareness and driving diplomatic pressure to end this cruelty. Together, we can #StopTheGrind.

Thank You for Joining Us at The Celebration of Whales
Last weekend, our President and CEO, Pritam Singh, opened his beautiful Vermont home to 141 devoted Sea Shepherd supporters for an afternoon dedicated to ocean conservation. The event featured a moving performance by renowned musician Paul Winter, who paid tribute to the late Roger Payne, former Sea Shepherd Board President and a trailblazer in the fight to protect whales.

Join us as we kick off our 11th year protecting the Vaquita!
Our campaign to protect the world's most endangered marine mammal, the Vaquita, enters its 11th year after a decade of confronting illegal fishing, harsh weather, and evolving ship technology. Experts agree that without Sea Shepherd and our generous donors, the Vaquita would be extinct by now. This success is shared with our captains, crews, partners in Mexico, and supporters. Our flagship, the Seahorse, just completed major upgrades:
-
A new crane, tripling our ghost-net removal capacity.
-
Expanded deck storage with large shipping containers that serve as flexible spaces for tool storage, office space, crew bunks, or workstations.
-
Cutting-edge acoustic monitoring to track and collect data about the Vaquita.
-
New drones, donated by DJI, extending our monitoring range, giving our ships a footprint of up to six miles.
Sea Shepherd remains relentless in defending the Vaquita, Totoaba, and other species in the Upper Gulf. Your support equips us to fight back against illegal poaching. Thank you.
Fall 2024 Matching Gift Challenge: Double Your Impact!
We're excited to announce the launch of our Fall 2024 Matching Gift Challenge!
Thanks to a generous donor, all gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $100,000, giving you the chance to make an even greater impact for ocean conservation. This is your opportunity to help us defend marine wildlife and protect the oceans we all love and depend on.
