** Celebrating buses
------------------------------------------------------------

Hello Supporter

It's officially the end of Catch the Bus Month 2024 and what a month it's been!

At the beginning of the month the Transport Secretary, Louise Haigh, unveiled a package of measures to empower local leaders to take control of their bus services. The Better Buses Bill will give all local transport authorities across England new powers to run their own bus services – powers previously limited to mayoral combined authorities. These new powers could help to sustain and protect bus services, creating a more reliable bus network for all.

We think everyone should have access to a quality bus service without risk of it being cut - whoever operates it - which is why we are calling for a minimum service level guarantee and long-term, ringfenced funding for all local authorities to be included in next month's Autumn Budget.

** Thanking bus drivers everywhere
------------------------------------------------------------
During Better Transport Week 2024, we invited you, our supporters, to send your messages of thanks to bus drivers around the country. We'll be delivering some of them on a giant Thank You card to the Confederation of Passenger Transport, the umbrella group for bus operators, so a big thank you to everyone who sent a message. Here are just some of your wonderful words!

"I catch the number five bus to and from work whenever I can. The drivers are always very friendly and helpful. And it helps to know I'm doing my bit for the environment. Thank you drivers!" - Anna, Chester

"I've lived car-free for 40 years now, and rely on my bike for local trips and bus and train for longer journeys. I'm 83, and grateful to bus drivers when they wait for you to be seated before moving off." - Peter, Edinburgh

"Thank you to all bus drivers for the part you play in reducing congestion and giving everyone a sustainable mode of travel." - Angela, Bournemouth

"A big thank you to all bus drivers everywhere. You perform an invaluable public service." - Barry, Rugby

** Tell us about your favourite bus stop
------------------------------------------------------------
If you haven't done so already, please let us know what's great about your favourite bus stop. Does it have clear information that makes catching the bus easy? Is the timetable easy to find, up to date and clear? Is there a live arrival board with real-time bus information? We want to hear about it!

By sharing your best bus stop, you will help to showcase shining examples for others to follow and help to highlight where public transport is getting it right.
