Friends,

Last December, nearly $2 billion was donated to organizations across the globe on #GivingTuesday. In response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19, the event's organizers called for today to be a global day of unity, #GivingTuesdayNow, with the hope of repeating that great success during this uncertain time.

The ongoing pandemic has brought unprecedented change to all of our lives and substantial need to tens of millions of Americans who have fallen ill, lost jobs, or own businesses that are struggling to stay afloat, or have already closed.

Through it all, charities and nonprofits like SCA continue to work through this crisis, offering services to those in need, or the important task of holding our government accountable as it responds to the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you are fortunate enough to be able, there is a lot you can do to support others through #GivingTuesdayNow and beyond.

This week is the Secular Week of Action, and nonbelievers across the country are supporting their communities through acts of service. Find a local event in your community or share your local work with #SecularAction, #WeekOfAction, and #GivingTuesdayNow.

Our 19 member organizations are hard at work fighting to ensure the government doesn't violate the separation of church and state through it's COVID-19 response, fact-checking pseudoscience that puts public health at risk, and so much more.

Additionally, throughout this pandemic, the Secular Coalition for America has been working to hold elected and appointed decision-makers accountable:

  • Our public policy response must be driven by science and research rather than personal beliefs and anecdotes.
  • Relief funding shouldn't go to organizations that use their work as an excuse to proselytize or that use personal religious beliefs to discriminate or withhold services.
  • Federal, state, and local leaders cannot put public health at risk by exempting religious services from stay-at-home orders.
Those efforts are critical to protecting secular values, reinforcing the separation of church and state, and ensuring as few Americans as possible are impacted by this crisis.

The generosity of supporters like you makes that work possible, and we need your help now more than ever. If you can support the SCA this #GivingTuesdayNow, it will make a big difference.

Please know that I recognize there are many worthwhile causes that need your support right now, and that millions affected by this crisis may not be able to offer financial support.

More than anything else, I hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. If you are able to, please support SCA or any of our members, or volunteer in your community.

Thank you so very much.

Together, we will get through this crisis and continue to fight for an America that truly lives up to its secular founding.

Stay safe,

Debbie
