It's Wesley Harris again. Under normal circumstances, I’d be sending you an email about our critical end-of-month fundraising deadline today—but these aren’t normal circumstances.
Much of Western North Carolina remains without power, cell service, or clean water. The area west of Statesville largely remains cut off from the outside world. Just yesterday, the Buncombe County Sheriff shared that over 1,000 people in Buncombe County alone are still unaccounted for. It is not an exaggeration to say that this is a disaster of biblical proportions, and it will be days or perhaps weeks before we truly know the scale of the damage.
People are hurting. People are scared. People need help.
With only 36 days until the election, it might not be the politically smart decision to use this email to fundraise for those affected by the disaster instead of my own campaign—but it’s unequivocally the right one. If you’re safe and able, please consider navigating to nc.gov/donate to give to the State of North Carolina’s Disaster Relief Fund. All contributions will be distributed by United Way directly to organizations helping folks on the ground.
