I’m reaching out because it’s deadline day, and I need to ask you to make a contribution before tonight’s FEC deadline.

The worst part of this job is asking people to contribute to my campaign. I hate making these requests. But that’s the reality so long as corporate and dark money are allowed to be corrosive forces in our democracy.

The truth is I’ve put us at a disadvantage by rejecting PAC and corporate money because I believe so strongly that campaigns should be fueled by people power. This choice means I sacrificed millions of dollars that almost all of my colleagues use as one of the drivers of their fundraising.

Look, I wish I never had to ask you again, but this deadline and your support really do matter for my re-election.

Will you please make a contribution to my campaign before our final end-of-quarter deadline? We can prove that running a true people-powered campaign isn’t just the right thing to do but it makes our movement even stronger.
