How do they do it?

Since the coronavirus turned millions of unsuspecting parents into school teachers overnight, I've heard that same question over and over, as folks get a firsthand look at teachers' lives. Generally, people have meant the question one of two ways:

  1. How do they DO it? Our teachers work hard every day, often long into the night, to make sure each of their students is getting what they need to succeed in school and beyond. It's exhausting, often thankless work, and our teachers deserve all of our respect and appreciation for dedicating their lives to our kids.

  2. HOW do they do it? Teaching is also challenging and complicated! How are we supposed to help our kids master all of this stuff?

Every good teacher you meet will tell you how important it is to know where to look for support, and to ask for help when you need it.

And there's the great news! The Library of Congress, the Smithsonian and many other organizations have made their resources available online to help educators and parents keep kids engaged and learning during the pandemic.

Even in this uncertain time, teachers continue to develop ways to educate and inspire our youth while adhering to the stay at home orders implemented to keep us all safe.

I've set up a page on my website to help you navigate some of the best options. There's a lot there already, and we'll be updating it steadily as we find new resources. Teachers are the backbone of our educational system, which is why I am proud to be endorsed by the Oregon Education Association, and the American Federation of Teachers!

Check out the great resources for parents and educators now!

Keep learning,

Peter
