John,
We have 10 days left before the Democratic National Committee (DNC) votes on whether to allow a full Presidential debate dedicated to climate change. I’ve got some good and bad news, and a request of you to help us take the #ClimateDebate over the finish line.
First the good: thanks to thousands of people around the country, support for the climate debate is growing faster than any pundits said was possible. We have a real shot at winning the vote next week.
But the bad news is that on Friday, Democratic National Committee chair Tom Perez introduced an anti-climate debate resolution, his latest attempt to chip away our support and slow our momentum. [1]
Everyone reading this email has local and state Democratic Party representatives who will vote on whether there is a climate debate or not. They need to hear from you now if we’re going to have a real shot at winning in the next 10 days.
Take a minute to make a call to your local and state Democratic Party members and urge them to vote yes on a climate debate next week.
Call your DNC members
Over the past two months thousands of people have shown up to Democratic Party offices and packed state and local meetings. Hundreds of thousands of us have taken action online.
And we’ve gotten results. Voting members and county committees in every corner have pledged to vote yes. State parties in Massachusetts, Maryland, and Utah and the Young Democrats of America have all endorsed the climate debate.
We’ve gotten within striking distance of winning this vote despite Perez and the Democratic establishment’s attempts to thwart us.
Reaching out to rank and file DNC members now could take us over the finish line. Can you take 3 minutes to make a call to two of your Democratic Party representatives and tell them why you support a climate debate?
A climate debate would transform the politics around the biggest issue facing our generation, and force the politicians who want to lead our country to take this seriously in a way they never have before. A lot of very important people said it was impossible, but in the next 10 days we have a chance to prove them wrong again. Let’s make the most of this.
Proud and grateful,
Varshini
